We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our very first internship cohort from the Andela Rwanda Apprenticeship Program. Emmanuel Ngendahimana and Latifah Akimana joined us from August 1st for a 3 months internship program, bringing with them fresh perspectives, a drive for innovation, and the skills to tackle real-world challenges. Their contributions over the past three months have been nothing short of impressive, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.

Emmanuel’s Contributions to Our HR Solutions
Emmanuel focused on two impactful HR projects, enhancing core aspects of our human resource management namely advanced keyword Search for CV shortlisting tool and mobile app for employee HR management
1. Advanced Keyword Search for CV Shortlisting Tool
In his first project, Emmanuel extended our CV shortlisting tool with advanced keyword search capabilities. This enhancement has streamlined our recruitment process, allowing our HR team to search submitted CVs with precision and identify talent that aligns closely with our needs.
Technically speaking, this project involved the following programming technologies and frameworks:
- Angular
- NodeJS
- GMAIL API
2. Mobile App for Employee HR Management
Emmanuel also developed a mobile app that provides employees with easy access to manage their HR records. Now, employees can view and update their personal information, check contract details, request leave, and download payslips—all from their mobile devices. This tool has simplified HR accessibility, empowering employees with self-service options.

Latifah’s Contributions to Business Solutions
Latifah took on two diverse business cases, focusing on enhancing user experience in one and creating a digital platform in another. She worked on the following projects: Translating an existing realestate app in Kinyarwanda and adding a chat feature, next she developed a website in Odoo.
1. Kinyarwanda Translation & Chat Feature for Houseinrwanda App
Latifah’s first project involved adding Kinyarwanda language support and a chat feature to the Houseinrwanda mobile application, developed with the Flutter framework. This addition enables a more inclusive user experience for Kinyarwanda-speaking users and enhances engagement through real-time communication features.

2. Demo Website in Odoo for a Cleaning Service Company
In her second project, Latifah developed a demo website for a cleaning service company using Odoo. This site showcases our capabilities with the Odoo framework and serves as an example of how we can provide tailored solutions to different industries, complete with service listings, pricing information, and a simple booking process.

Reflecting on Our First Partnership with Andela Rwanda
As our very first interns from Andela, Emmanuel and Latifah have set a high standard, delivering their projects successfully and bringing valuable improvements to our platforms. This collaboration with Andela Rwanda has been mutually beneficial—Andela provides essential training, while SMART IT Consulting Ltd offers a hands-on environment for interns to work on complex, real-world IT projects. It is also important to mention that this collaboration has been initiated by Emmanuel Dushime, an Andela Alumni, who is today working as a full stack software engineer at SMART IT CONSULTING for almost 2 years.
